Self-love is defined as having great regard for one’s happiness and well-being. It’s an empowering and self-loving belief that all of our emotions are interconnected. When we love ourselves, we can overcome the feelings of insecurity, guilt, and fear that typically weigh us down.

There’s a lot of ways to improve your self-love. If you’re looking to enhance your self-love, then here are some ways to start:

Identify Your Negative Feelings

Which negative feelings do you most often experience? Do these feelings prevent you from doing the things that you love doing? Write down a few of the things that make you feel bad about yourself. In that way, you’ll pinpoint the negative feelings that you need to work on.

It takes practice to stop blaming yourself for feeling bad and start trusting that you’re worthy of happiness. Make progress by noticing your feelings, not by thinking about them or talking yourself into believing they’re true.

Recognize Those Who Love And Care For You

Who in your life acts as positive role models for you, encouraging and supporting who you are? Think about family, friends, and teachers that have been there for you through the years. Then, it will be easier for you to remember to think better of yourself when the going gets rough.

Focus On the Positive Qualities That You Possess

What’s important to you? Is it being a good friend and spending time with your family? Is it your success at school or work? Once you find what’s most important to you, write down a few positive qualities that you possess.

Set Aside At Least 15 Minutes Each Day To Do One Thing That Makes You Happy

Whether it’s going for a run, laughing with your friends, or playing video games, find an activity that makes you feel good about yourself and do it regularly. Take up a hobby or an activity that you love and when you wake up in the morning, let it be that thing that motivates you and helps you become a better person. 

Challenge yourself every day to do more than the day before. For example, if you have been slacking in your exercise, make it a point to go for a walk or do some push-ups when you wake up in the morning. 

Also, you can pick up a new instrument and learn as much as possible about it. For those of us who like to read, try picking up a new book every week to improve our vocabulary and learn new things about life, history, nature, science, and everything else there is to know about.

Spend Time With People Who Love You And Are Concerned About Your Well-Being

Who are the people that love you? Think about your family, friends, and teachers. Spend time with them regularly. Love yourself and spend time with people who care about you. When you do that, you will be able to love yourself.

If you spend enough time with those who love you, they will recognize your value. When you do, they will stop saying things like “you’re so hard to love” or “It’s so difficult to love you better.” Instead, they will say something like, “It feels like I don’t have to work hard at loving you” and “I feel the best when I’m with you.”

When this happens, they will not be ashamed of or apologize for loving you anymore. You won’t seem to know what to do anymore, and that uncertainty makes other people love you more. You’ll start to feel happier with yourself.

Move Closer To Your Dreams

If you want to be a writer:

  1. Do more writing and spend more time on the computer where writers like yourself are.
  2. If you’re going to be a musician, play gigs regularly and listen to music that inspires you.
  3. Start practicing your instrument and learning as much as possible from different training programs online.

Any dreams that you have make sure you work on getting closer to them. Always take a step forward. Don’t worry if you stumble and fall, and it’s part of success. Instead, learn from it and rise up. 

Tell People About Your Dreams

If you want to be a writer, write down a few of your dreams. Then, learn from the experience and tell others about your aspirations. It’s amazing how liberating it feels to share our ideas with others. Letting go of the past and living for today is what we create by telling others about our dreams.

Make Commitments To Yourself And Stick To Them

Do you have a drill sergeant that makes you regularly take up chores or things that make you feel bad about yourself? Take some time each day and do something that makes you happy, inspiring you to stick to good habits so that they become part of your routine. Create a new way for good habits so that they become part of your life.

Be An Inspiration

What makes you feel good about yourself and inspires others to work harder? Think about what works for you and what you do that inspires others. Are you someone who has a vision of what needs to be done, or are others with a similar idea? With your commitment, come together and dream big! 

There is nothing like having a positive attitude towards life while being optimistic about our future. So, live each day to make the best choices possible when we are faced with challenging situations.


Appreciating and loving yourself more than anything is one way to improve your self-love. The person you are looking for is already in front of you. Don’t ever think that it’s selfish to prioritize yourself because it’s not. Taking care of yourself is a necessity, not a choice. Your life is the priority.
